Adventure Mindset

Why Raising Adventure Seekers?

You guys, parenting is HARD WORK!! The amount of time spent agonizing over parenting decisions, worrying about the many mistakes being made and praying that these little humans turn into decent adults. Some days I feel like I’m succeeding, other days I know I’m just surviving! There are so many qualities I hope that I instill in my girls, way too many to list, but one that stands out is resilience. I want them to be able to persevere through everything that is thrown at them. That’s why we focus so much on seeking adventure.

The definition of an adventure seeker is someone who seeks the adventure in everyday life. This is something I hope for my children. That they become good, honest, hardworking adults who constantly seek the good in life.

Y’all, life is hard! We can never anticipate it’s twist and turns. We can never be fully prepared for all that life throws at us. The good times and the bad times catch us by surprise. But most of the time, we can choose to seek the adventure in the journey.  We can find solitude in the new experiences to come.

The reality is that we are all going to go through difficult times throughout our life. Some experiences are so incredibly painful that we just need a lot longer to heal and finding the adventure in those situations is just not possible.  However, many of the tough times we experience, can be made less difficult by seeking the adventure in our new normal. My goal is that when difficult times come, my children are able to push forward and find the adventure in life.

Another reason for teaching our children to seek adventure is to teach them to find joy in their present moment and to seek the beauty around them. We live in such a fast-paced world where we often feel the pressure to add so much to our to-do lists. I want to teach my children to take a moment to explore and enjoy the world around them. Whether it’s a walk through the park, a day trip to a local destination, or a weekend camping trip, it’s important to press pause and fill your soul!

Another goal in teaching our children to seek adventure is for them to learn that experiences will often bring more happiness than material things.  That regardless of your financial status, you can find joy in experiences. This doesn’t mean that they can’t enjoy material things or that they can never splurge something they want but we want to instill in them the importance of experiences. Those are things that can never be broken or taken from them.

So sweet babies… hold on to the good this world gives you, find the adventure in the bad, and spread joy everywhere you go!
